Mom -to-be and star of HBO's Girls Jemima Kirke has gumption. Gumption to pose topless, raw and unfiltered in VICE magazine while 8 months pregnant. And gumption to announce in an October 28th interview with New York Magazine that although she does not know the sex of her soon-to-be born child, if it is a boy she will not circumcise him.
"I don't like the idea of mutilating a baby," she said about the procedure where doctors remove the foreskin from a baby shortly after his birth. "And that's what it is. Let's just call a spade a spade."
My favorite part of the article is this:
Kirke doesn’t quite consider herself an actress. Kirke, the London-born daughter of a musician and a designer, has a degree from RISD and says she is a painter first and then a wife, a mother, and, possibly, an actor.
I've never seen an episode of Girls, but I think I will. I'm loving this woman!
Kirke and her husband Michael Mosberg have a 2-year old daughter, Rafaella.
What do you think about her proclamation and feelings on circumcision?
