Wubbzy's Christmas Adventure Review & Giveaway

The Mischiefmakers and I were sent copy of the Wubbzy Christmas Adventure DVD to screen.

At the outset, I had no idea that Cboy, the snarky pre-tween 7-year old (remember him from the last review) was already an avid and regular viewer of the Wubbzy series. He knew all the characters and followed the adventures in the DVD pretty easily without me having to force him to sit still and watch like last time. The boys are only permitted to watch TV on weekends and I guess someone (read:ME) is doing a sucky job at keeping up with the various Nick, Nick Jr., Cartoon Channel and Disney toons the kids are into these days. On weekends what usually happens is that he disappears in the basement and I would assumed he'd watching his usual Tom & Jerry, iCarly and/or Spongebob. I already knew and heard of the 4-year old talk of this Wubbzy before.

Well anyway, the Wubbzy's Christmas Adventure DVD includes 6 mini-adventures: Snow Day; The Super Special Gift ,The Snow Shoo Shoo, O Figgity Fig Tree, Dash for Dolly and The Great and Grumpy Holiday. They feature your friendly neighborhood bendy thingy Wubbzy, his nerdy buddy Walden, their creative rabbit dude Widget and a cute little Daizy, who I believe is someone's tagalong sister? I guess.

As you can tell, I have never really paid much attention to the cartoon series, but as I did for the review, I realized that the cutesy characters including the wacky main dude Wubbzy, who's always going "wow wow" are just a bunch of "kids" having fun and hanging out in a wacky colorful wubbzy world. Because I am one of those parents always looking for educational value in stuff, I was happy to see that each of the episodes has a moral lesson or life's message. Snow Day is about being honest when you make a mistake and not trying to cover up with lies. Oh, that's a good one. Another one gets into the importance of making gifts versus purchasing them for someone because the effort you put into creating a gift is valued more. Just to make sure the kids "got it", I asked each of them what they took away and egged them on for an answer and more or less, they did! Neat! Who said TV couldn't be educational?

A few of the episodes were about Christmas (so too bad for the Jewish, Muslim or Hindu kid in America looking at all these Christmas specials, but hey, I guess they are used to it by now and I did see a menorah and a Kwanza candleabra in one of one episode) The others are general episodes set in winter and around making a snow man, for example. Both boys told me they liked the DVD and it showed. They sat still and watched it to the end, except for one portion, during the Grumpy ,the 4-year old was a bit spooked by Gramps and left the room. That was funny to see because he is usually not the "fraidy" type and is quite brave, but in the end I coaxed him back to the room to see that gramps was a Christmas Grinch, Bah Humbug type of dude, but he came around in the end and perked up! i convinced 4 year old to give it a second chance and he did!

The littlest Mischiefmaker, GG, all of 22 months was again, along for the ride. There are three song sequences where the characters dance and sing and boy did she boogie down for all three. She was like a little DVD preview halftime cheerleader. Too cute!

All in all, it was a nice packaged assembly of fun especially for the fans of the Wubbzy series and for new viewers too! I give it a Bellyitch Bump up! ha!
