THE MAGIC GIRAFFE
The Peanut has a favorite toy.
Her name is “Sophie la giraffe”. If you are a yuppie parent, you are probably already familiar with (or own) Sophie. If you own Sophie, but say "hey, I'm not a yuppie parent", you really aren't being honest with me (or yourself, for that matter). Because lets be frank...who else would spend $22.50 (yes, I said $22.50) on what is essentially a rubber squeaky toy.

According to her box, Sophie was “born in Paris in 1961”. She is approximately 6 inches long, covered in brown and white spots, squeaks when you press on her, and undoubtedly has made millions of dollars for french based Vulli toys (over the last 47 years). Vulli prides itself on not having changed the design or composition of Sophie since her “birth”. No money needed for research and development, virtually all marketing is done by word of yuppie mouth (oh, and by pushy, uppity baby "boutique" owners). Sophie is pure profit.
“Is that a dog toy?” one of my child-less friends gasped with horror as I pulled Sophie out at on recent coffee date. True, a dog toy would have been significantly more cost-effective than "Sophie la giraffe" (although, I think that parental guilt would have eventually kicked in when I really considered the fact that my baby was chewing on a product of Petsmart - never mind CSPC regulations).
I just purchased a second Sophie to replace the original (who was lost in a tragic accident - turfed out of the stroller at Filene’s Basement while my eyes were averted). Of course, at $22.50 each, this is no small investment. But here’s the thing...she’s magic. She works wonders. The Peanut has yet to remove Sophie from her mouth. And that, in itself, is the best endorsement.

So grab Sophie (check Amazon for more reasonable prices), and tuck her into the bassinet of your Bugaboo Chameleon or Uppababy Vista. Rest assured, she will accompany your baby through his or her months of teething with comfort and ease.
